Hi Gavin,
The red recording line on the Price/Volume Over Time chart keeps jumping, alternating between two different settings. It has been doing this for a few days now. I have checked with the same chart on the Betfair site and that is not doing the same thing - it is keeping steady as it is supposed to.

Having an accurate history of odds movements is vital to the system I use, so how can I correct this?

Hi David,

This is a known bug at Betfair. Those simple Betfair charts are not produced by the Cymatic software. The chart that you see is just an image file that Cymatic downloads from Betfair at regular intervals. Unfortunately the image that Betfair sends sometimes is an old one, and seems to alternate between two different states.

I reported it to them a very long time ago and they said that their development team would address it but have still not done so.

Actually the problem does also occur on the Betfair website too. If you right-click the chart window and choose Refresh then you will sometimes see an older chart image appear, in the same way that it does in the software.

Thanks for that, Gavin, and for reporting it to Betfair again. Is there anyway to tell which is the correct chart? I tried keeping the Betfair chart open as well but it is a very clumsy solution, and by the time you do that, the odds have changed anyway (my system involves checking in the final minute before the off, when odds are jumping around anyway). But it is a chancy solution anyway because Betfair download speeds are slower than yours.

Hi David,

My guess would be that when the chart shows newer information on the right hand end of the line, that is the correct chart. When it temporarily goes back to a chart without the extra information, that is probably the old chart.

Thanks for that, Gavin. Actually, I have noticed that the jumping seems to be caused by the gradations on left-hand "Price" column increasing and reducing. This may not seem to matter much except that when they narrow, it makes movements far harder to spot. I can't swear that this is the problem because the problem has now corrected itself (or maybe Betfair has at last taken notice of your pleas!).

Thanks for your message. Unfortunately the problem has not been fixed yet. I just did a test and it still occurs. Betfair replied but hadn't but just needed me to send them even more details to help them see how to reproduce it on the website.

Hopefully, they might resolve it eventually, but I'm not sure.

In July 2021, Betfair added this onto a list of jobs for their development team to address, but have not given me a timeline of when the job will be started.

They also stated :
"You should be aware that the graphs are primarily for use with the website so aren't designed to be updated at a high frequency in real time and this is potentially why we haven't received complaints from website users."
