Betfair - removal of IP delay in horse races

Postby adenlark » Wed Feb 14, 2018 10:21 am

Interesting...
We’d like to enhance our offering further by removing the in-running bet delay, which is currently set to 1 second.

http://community.betfair.com/horse_raci ... -bet-delay

It wasn't lost on some people that Betfair are probably doing this for their benefit, rather than ours:
We believe this would allow bets to be matched quicker and more frequently, whilst also improving the success rate of Cash Out and our new Auto Cash Out functionality.

I rarely bet In-Play because some of the opportunities I see disappear before the 1 second delay has passed. No delay could make things a bit more interesting.

Interesting. I hadn't heard that proposal until you mentioned it.

I'm not sure what difference it will make for algo-traders.

Presumably it might make some race-goers more profitable.

Thanks for the info,

Gavin

@ adenlark
Thanks for the information. I definitely agree with your comment "....opportunities I see disappear before the 1 second delay has passed. No delay could make things a bit more interesting....."

@ Gavin
As per this development the proposal at topic1530.html#p6949 would be unnecessary when this is implemented by Betfair.....

Thanks Angelo, actually the in-play has already been simulated for bets in demo mode. It is just the persistence type of demo bets (cancel, keep, take-sp) in the moment when the race goes in-play that have yet to be implemented.
Kind regards,
Gavin

It is surprising to know that the in-play delay has already been simulated for bets in demo mode. It never made a difference to me in the past month or so while in demo mode - probably such trading occasion would not have arisen.

Anyway, it would make sense if the change is reverted once it is confirmed that Betfair has made the change.

Thanks.

Hi Angelo,

The software will automatically adjust without needing a new version. The software knows which markets have an in-play delay because it gets that information from Betfair for each individual market that it accesses.

Kind regards,

Gavin
