Postby spes123 » Thu Jul 30, 2015 10:38 am

My wife has today installed the Windows 10 upgrade on our PC now when i try to go into Cymatic I get the following error message

"Unexpected error checking license. Please contact the licensor. Error details:
String was not recognized as a valid DateTime."

No other details and when I click on the ok button the application closes completely

Any ideas/

Sorry Gavin

Sorted the issue the upgrade to Windows 10 had set all the Date and Time value settings within the OS to the American style even though they were being displayed in British style on screen. Changing the OS settings to British style has resolved the issue.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for informing me, it was helpful. I had another user ask me the same thing and I didn't know what had caused it, but now I do! Thanks.

Best wishes,

Gavin

Error in getLicenseDetails - RESOLVED

Postby Tanden7 » Fri Jul 31, 2015 12:10 pm

When I run the software I am getting the message...

Error in getLicenseDetails.
Please contact the licensor.

When I click OK (the only option) another error is displayed...

Unexpected error checking license.
Please contact the licensor.
Error details: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.

When I click OK (again the only option) the program closes.

I have searched the forum but can not find any info re: the first error.
I found info re: the second error where the user solved the issue by updating their language settings to English (United Kingdom).

However, my language settings are already set to English (United Kingdom).

Any ideas?

There are lots of language and region settings in Windows. I suggest that you check all of them.

Control Panel | Language and Region.

Then check both, Language and Region section.

Note that in the Region section, there will be a window with 3 tabs, all of which have settings that could be relevant.

Also in Windows 10, hit the start button and go to Settings | Time and Language, which has various settings too. That seems to be partly in addition to Control Panel settings.

Kind regards,

Gavin

Thank you for your quick reply Gavin.

I have re-checked all the language & region settings and they are all definitely set to English (United Kingdom).

However, I had specifically set my short date format to be "ddd d MMM"

I have just tried setting it to "dd/MM/yyyy" instead and I am no longer getting the first error :D

But I am still getting the second error message!

I have tried various other short and long date and time formats to no avail.

My current formats are...
Short time: HH:mm
Long time: HH:mm:ss
Short Date: dd/MM/yyyy
Long date: dd MMMM yyyy

Do you have any more ideas?

Hi Tanden7,

It sounds like your license expiry date was initially allocated in a date format that your current settings no longer recognise.

I think the simplest solution is just to uninstall the software and re-install it. That should sort the problem out.

If re-installing doesn't solve it, then please inform me I'll try to explain how to delete the application cache / settings, to make way for new fresh ones, but hopefully they'll get deleted when you uninstall.

Your date and time settings are now the standard ones for the UK. I think the problem only arises if those settings change after the software has first been installed. I have looked at the code and can't easily find a workable solution to prevent an error in that situation.

Kind regards,

Gavin

Hi again Gavin

Uninstalling & re-installing did the trick.

FYI after re-installing I tried my original short date format of "ddd d MMM" and got a similar error to before.

However, adding the year and using "ddd d MMM yyyy" works fine.

Thank you for your help - problem solved :D

Hi Tanden7,

I'm glad to hear that resolved it. Also, thanks for informing about your date format selections and how affects it too.

Kind regards,

Cymatic with Windows 10

Postby pete_i » Wed Aug 05, 2015 12:00 am

Hi All,

Just updated to Windows 10 and wondered if anyone here had done also and had it working because I'm now getting a startup error.

Here is the message I get before even being asked if I want to run in 'Real' or 'Demo' mode.

'Unexpected error checking license. Please contact the licensor. Error details: String was not recognized as a valid DateTime.'

This is in a popup with an OK button. When you click on OK Cymatic disappears and you end up back at the desktop.
