Demo mode versus real money

Postby chapps30 » Sun Apr 12, 2015 6:24 pm

Traded the last 4 horse races in the UK today, made 8.16, 17.12, -2.86 and 17.36. Using £100 1 tick offset. What's the chances it'll be different when i go live!!

Good result chapps30 :)

Well, there exists a possibility that your live bets might affect the market dynamics if the size of your bets is significant compared to the money available in the market, whereas demo bets are of course invisible to other participants. Your success bodes well and I wish you good luck going live.

Kind regards,

Hi Chapps30

Great stuff with your trades. Shows that small amounts soon add up.

Further to what Gavin said, I have found that demo mode sometimes matches your stake even if there isn't enough real money in the market, which obviously wouldn't occur in a "real" trade. Just to make you aware.

The other thing I found when I started out many moons ago, was that it was my money I was trading with and I was more emotionally attached to it then pretend/practice money on a demo mode and this had a negative impact on my trading, (lots of scratching trades in a panic, being overcautious entering trades etc).
Took me some time to be able to detach myself.

Hope this helps and good luck with your trading

Boris
