Betting restrictions Australia

Postby SJCrawley » Mon Jan 07, 2019 12:01 pm

Dear Gavin,
Happy New Year.
I note that in play betting is illegal in Australia so we are restricted to trading 'pre start' only. I have two questions regarding the impact of this on the operation of your software;

1. Does your Bot operate regardless of the local restrictions around betting/trading durations? I.e. does the bot STOP operating when Betfair is no longer taking orders? I'm interested to u understand how the bot may manage this complication in the Australian market.

2. If the bot does work in the Australian jurisdiction, can it achieve more than one tick leading up to close of bets? By this I mean, if the bot is activated 5 minutes before the race start, does it trade right up to bet cancellation and clock multiple ticks or does it close after it achieves one tick only?

Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Simon Crawley

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your message and Happy New Year.

1. Yes Cymatic software is being used by people in the Australian jurisdiction.

I am not able to look and see how Betfair have implemented the part that you describe (no trading in-play), but I presume that they would have done it by simply making the markets go into 'suspended' status at the moment when they would have gone in-play. This will not upset Cymatic, it will simply be unable to place or edit bets once the market has gone 'suspended' and price updates would presumably cease at that point also.

If my assumption is not correct and Betfair do something else at the point when the race should start, then perhaps you will be able to observe it and inform me please.

2. Cymatic will observe all ticks (price changes, traded volume changes etc) continuously from the moment you open the market until you either change market, or Betfair stop sending the data when the market ceases to be active. When a market ceases to be active for betting, Betfair change the status of the market to 'Suspended'. So if in Australia the markets become suspended when they would have gone in-play, then that would be the last moment that price ticks would be updated in the software. So ticks will be streaming to your computer from Betfair, from the moment you open the market until it becomes suspended.

Kind regards,

Gavin

Wow, I didn't know gambling was banned in Australia. The fact is that I will be able to fly there soon. I have been waiting for the opening of borders in my country for a long time. I wonder if only real casinos are closed, which should be closed anyway because they are public places, or if there is a chance that I can just play on my tablet in an online casino here [link removed by moderator] like at home? Gambling is my hobby and I never play for big bets. I can always stop in time, even if I lose all the time. Thanks for the answer!

I always bet on the game I watch. I'm making a purely symbolic small bet and not a small one at all. This makes watching the game more exciting. I feel like I belong in this process, my emotions overwhelm me, and I will enjoy it anyway. Everyone can choose whether they want to or not. They both support sports and help people like me, and some manage to make money from it. I don't see anything wrong with that, just the pros {Link removed by moderator]. Betting is one of the most ancient things created by man, and only the gods are older.
